Concurrent Outpatient Medical & Psychosocial Addiction Support Services (COMPASS) is an outpatient service specializing in evidence–based, medical and psychosocial interventions for clients with addiction/concurrent disorder concerns.

Types of Treatment and Services Offered
Comprehensive initial assessment of medical and psychosocial needs for individuals with substance use concerns, with active use in the past 3 months; Assessment may include psychiatric consultation as a secondary step
Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) Clinic: provides barrier-free, walk-in access (without appointment or physician referral) for individuals with urgent addiction concerns. Immediate help offered for alcohol, opioid, or other substance-related addictions, with the possibility of other short-term supportive services. Clients will be seen by a member of the team at this visit who will further assess and recommend treatment options which may include: Prescribing medications (including anti-craving medications for alcohol and buprenorphine/naloxone for opiate use disorder), brief counselling, or referral to CAMH or community treatment programs. Operates Monday to Friday: 10am – 12pm.
Short-term pharmacotherapy for withdrawal management from alcohol, opioids and benzodiazepines;
Ambulatory Day Detox Withdrawal Management support (in-person)
Initiation and Maintenance of pharmacotherapy for:
Alcohol use disorder (anti-craving)
Opioid use disorder (Opiate Agonist Therapy (OAT))
Benzodiazepine use disorder (slow taper), and
Tobacco use disorder
Comprehensive urine drug testing
Group-based treatment (currently offered virtually) for the following groups:
Early Recovery Group (General)
Early Recovery Group for Stimulant Use Disorder
CBT + MI Group for Cannabis Use Disorder
CBT Group for Alcohol Use Disorder
CBT Group for Major Depressive Disorder & Alcohol Use Disorder
Interpersonal Group
Mantram First Aid Group for PTSD
Seeking Safety Group for trauma and substance use
Limited short-term individual psychosocial/Psychotherapy for those not suited to group treatment
Program Overview
Client entry into COMPASS is through a collaborative assessment involving various health provider disciplines, and which may further include psychiatric consultation as a secondary step
Care is provided by a diverse and dedicated interprofessional team who are committed to providing the highest quality of care possible, delivered in a spirit of dignity, respect and compassion
Evidence-based approaches of motivational enhancement therapy and cognitive behavior therapy and others form the basis of the psychosocial interventions offered within a harm reduction philosophy of care
The team practices from a trauma-informed lens, and embraces clinical complexity inherent to clients with concurrent disorders
Addressing each client's needs as a whole person, the COMPASS team takes a collaborative approach with the client as a partner in care, welcomes family inclusion, and strives to collaborate with community providers for coordinated care
COMPASS functions as an integrated clinical research environment continuously exploring treatment innovations so as to offer the best and latest treatments available.
As CAMH is a teaching hospital, COMPASS also serves as a hub for trainees across a wide variety of health disciplines
